Abstract
The phytochemical profiles of Senna auriculata revealed the presence of crude protein, 15.60% and 16.56% in the leaf and flower, respectively. The methanolic extracts of S. auriculata showed the presence of secondary phytochemicals, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins, tannins and quinones in the leaf, and alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, cardiac glycosides and quinones in the flower. There were different secondary metabolic compounds (totally 27 in leaf and 25 in flower) were detected through the GC-MS analyses. The methanolic extracts of S. auriculata showed antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escarichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus better than that of the positive control, Ampicillin. The methanolic extracts of S. auriculata leaf and flower inhibited the growth, produced leakage of intracellular compounds and apoptosis of these bacteria.
