Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of Morinda citrifolia L. leaf extract and identify its optimal dose in lowering blood glucose levels in male mice (Mus musculus L.) induced by alloxan. This research is an experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a quantitative approach. Blood samples were obtained from the tail vein of the mice and measured using a glucometer at three time points: before alloxan induction, two days after induction, and every five days after administration of the leaf extract at doses ranging from 125 to 750 mg/kg body weight (BW). There were six treatments and five replications in this study. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and if significant differences were found, Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) was performed at a 5% significance level. The research was conducted at the Biology Laboratory of Jambi University. The results showed that the administration of Morinda citrifolia leaf extract significantly affected the reduction of blood glucose levels in mice. The percentage of blood glucose reduction (%BGR) for each treatment was P0 = -40.53%, P1 = 30.70%, P2 = 55.04%, P3 = 28.51%, P4 = 36.93%, and P5 = 30.35%, with treatment P2 (250 mg/kg BW) showing the most optimal effect. Therefore, a dose of 250 mg/kg BW was determined to be the most effective in lowering blood glucose levels. This result is expected to provide valuable information regarding the potential of Morinda citrifolia leaf as an alternative treatment for diabetes mellitus and as supplementary material for animal physiology practical sessions.
